About ForbesCG

Lochlan Forbes, founder of ForbesCG, specialises in creating high-quality 3D marine assets, animations, and ocean-themed digital artwork, with a focus on sculpting species native to Australia. Drawing on years of hands-on physical sculpting experience combined with advanced CGI techniques, he produces realistic, anatomically accurate models with meticulous attention to detail. All assets are sculpted and refined from the ground up and can be custom-textured, posed, and presented to suit each client’s creative direction, environment, and visual style. Each piece is built entirely in 3D, allowing flexibility in lighting, composition, and presentation. ForbesCG offers commissioned, fully customisable services, delivering tailored renders, animations, and visual content crafted with precision, strong anatomical reference, and a high level of artistic care from start to finish.

From Clay To Digital

I’ve been creative for as long as I can remember, with the ability to interpret how things should look from a young age. Long before I ever worked digitally, I spent years sculpting with real clay, learning symmetry, anatomy, and how to paint fine detail by hand. Rather than just enjoying a movie, I’ve always been more interested in how a movie is produced, the making-of, the creature creation, and the process of bringing characters to life from start to finish. Watching artists deliver breathtaking ultra realistic models and cinematic CGI shots has always inspired me to hopefully one day reach the same level. I was limited only until recently by clay, however clay has enabled and taught me the patience and accuracy needed to make something look real. For a long time I stuck to physical sculpting because I didn’t realise at the time that I would in fact have the technical ability to tackle the 3D realm if I really set my mind to it. Eventually I decided to give it a go and downloaded the software.

I told myself I wouldn’t stop until I’d learnt this program inside and out. Once I got my head around the tools, I felt as if I had clay in my hands again, only this time the clay was inside the computer screen. The foundations I’d built from years of sculpting carried straight across, and that’s when I realised I suddenly had unlimited freedom: posing, lighting, colour, animation, and the addition of fine detail. What I was producing was no longer a stationary object destined to sit on a bench, it could be brought to life from any angle, in any environment. That mix of traditional sculpting experience and modern CGI is what shapes my work now. I approach every model the same way I approached clay: get the proportions correct, follow the anatomy, and make it feel alive.

What makes this unique

Because each asset is fully sculpted in true 3D, angles, poses, lighting, and colour can be adjusted without starting from scratch. This allows for a high level of realism and flexibility beyond traditional illustration, while also enabling controlled refinement and the ability to produce multiple variations when required

Under the Surface

Each piece is a true 3D asset, built with clean topology and offering complete control over pose, lighting, and visual direction, allowing clients to actively guide the artistic outcome, far beyond what flat or generative imagery allows.
